Vacancy Teaching Assistant Supporting Research activities at ESI (8 hours a week)

Educational Support and Innovation (ESI) is the central educational support department at the
University of Groningen. We are looking for a teaching assistant who can support our research
and evaluation team. In this team, research is carried out to get more insight in educational
evaluations and developments, such as:
• the bi-annual PhD survey
• the University Teaching Qualification
• (international) educational projects

You will also assist a PhD-trajectory about university teachers’ professional development, for
instance by updating references and transcribing interview data.

Job description
We are looking for a teaching assistant for 8 hours per week. You will work mainly
individually, but sometimes you will work closely together with researchers and educationalists
at ESI. There are a variety of tasks that need to be done, such as:
• Updating references lists (APA/Chicago style)
• Creating facts sheets in Excel based on survey data
• Transcribing audio from interview data
• Coding open answers in Excel and/or Atlas.ti
• Performing analyses in SPSS or R
• Creating graphs and visualizations to interpret data
• Facilitate focus group meetings

Job requirements
• Studies at least two more years at RUG
• Preferably available for at least one year
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• Excellent English language skills in word and writing
• Excellent Dutch language skills in word and writing
• Experience with Excel, Qualtrics and SPSS, Atlas.ti
• Knowledge of programming languages such as R and/or Python is preferred

The teaching assistant we look for scores high on the competencies: flexible, socially skilled,
enthusiastic, analytical, pro-active and result-oriented. Besides the ability to work
independently, we expect you to be a team-player when collaborating with others. You need to
have access to a personal laptop or computer with excellent internet connection. We prefer
candidates to work at least half a day (4 hours) per week from the office at Zernike (preferably
on Tuesday). The other 4 hours are flexible.
